The very first pegasus of the G3 My Little Pony line, Star Catcher is a very special pony, which has been issued in a number of unique designs.
The first issue of Star Catcher was released in 2004 as part of the Friendship Ball theme. She came with the video Dancing in the Clouds, in which she starred. She was later re-issued in a four-pony pack set with minor differences.
This issue is notable for her rearing pose and her large, fabric wings (as such she’s depicted with large blue wings in all early images and accessories, like this purse). She was the only pegasus made in this design.
Her second issue, released a s part of the 25th anniversary campaign, is in the same mold other pegasi have been released since their first appearance in 2005. Note how her wings are molded in this version. She’s been issue both as a single-pack pony and as part of a party favour set of eight.
Finally, a third version of her, from the set Decorating Star Catcher, released earlier this year. She’s considerably larger in size than standard ponies (she’s the same siza as Styling Ponies) and comes with special thermal-sensitive markers which can be used to decorate her. Is it me, or does she have an extra nostalgic feel to her? She really reminds me of the early pegasi designs from the 80s line.
For the sake of curiosity, here is a picture of a prototype version of her that was available on-line approxmately in December 2007, which looks like a first release Star Catcher with molded wings.
